Overview
The Albert City plant, located on 78 acres about 95 miles northeast of Sioux City, produces ethanol, distillers grains livestock feed and fuel- and feed-grade corn oil. Corn is purchased from within 50 miles.

Volunteer Hours
More than 6,400 hours volunteered by Albert City plant employees supporting local nonprofits from 2017-2021. Some of these events include the Upper Des Moines Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive and Holiday Food Drive, Christmas Adopt-A-Family, Adopt-A-Highway and community parades.
Benefiting Children
A total of $145,000 from the Valero Texas Open and Benefit for Children has been given to local charities nominated by employees over the last five years.
United Way Giving
More than $331,000 contributed to United Way of Spencer through employee pledges, additional donations and company matches since 2017.
Environmentally Responsible Operations
Best-in-class environmental performance through reliability, operational excellence and investments in renewable energy. Albert City plant recognition pending under the Efficient Producer Program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for superior process efficiency – through reduced on-site energy consumption, increased fuel output and/or use of biomass or biogas from certain sources to reduce process energy greenhouse gas emissions.
Safety Awards & Honors
Quarterly Valero STAR Metric award for achieving no incidents in five key areas of process safety, reliability, environmental, rail safety, and policy and procedure compliance.

About Albert City
The welcome sign for very rural Albert City highlights its Swedish heritage with the slogan, “How Swede It Is!” When the community was established in 1890, it was initially named Manthrop, after a town in Sweden. The U.S. Postal Service was concerned about potential confusion between Manthrop and nearby Marathon, so the name was changed to Albert City, after Albertina Anderson, the wife of the town’s founder.
